While an easy solution to manage
debt is to curb spending habits, debt is often unavoidable and a result of illness, medical bills or other unforseen expenses. How to control the amount of you debt you get into, can, however be managed.
An easy way to prevent yourself from spending the money that you don’t have, is to swap your credit card with a debit card, and reserve your credit card for emergencies only. Credit cards are responsible for quick accumulation of debt and have huge interest rates. It might help, if you have a credit card, to perhaps replace it with a credit card with lower interest.
Taking out a home equity loan, like a consolidation loan, is also a way to cut down the amount you’re paying in debt. Debt is not only the repayments of money lent, but largely interest as well. Home equity loans are available to homeowners for a fraction of the interest rate that you would pay on a credit card. Your house does, however, stand as collateral and risks being sold to cover your debt.
While not an immediate or the most practical route to getting out of debt, you can create a second avenue of income. This must be cost-effective (that is, not requiring more money to start up), and can range from selling goods that you no longer use or renting property, to taking on a second job until the debt is paid.
Getting out of debt is not as easy as getting into debt, but it is possible. If you qualify for
debt counseling (according to the requirements of the NCR), you can get a counselor to negotiate lower interest and longer repayment periods to help you out of the rut.
